Winston crumbles in room 101 and effectively loses his mind (maybe deliberatly after betraying his woman). He is basically turned into a subservant vegetable. End scene in a bar where your made to believe fro a second that a memory of his former rebellious self remains. It doesn't. It's very sad.

winston gets broken by the regime, gives up his love for gloria and accepts that he loves big brother above all else...
he was tortured by rats in room 101, which convinced him that the only way to survive would be to do as he is told, and follow and believe everything big brother wants, including 2+2=5 etc...
a very bleak ending to a very bleak book...

I was going to say it turns into 1985 but then I realised you meant the book or film!

Yeah, they catch Winston and take him to some sort of prison where they do loads of stuff to him to make him like Big Brother and stuff. They do the same to 'Gloria' I think her name is. I was a bit dissapointed with the end really. I kind of hoped Winston would win.

in room 101 Winston comes face to face with his greatest fear, and shortly ends up confessing everything and anything. the last words in the book are:" he loved big brother."
now, I've just ruined a great book for you, but what was it that frightened him so much?

The "man" wins (boo!) just like in real life. Winston should've channelled his inner Bruce Willis and kicked some äss.

It does end with Winston failing in his struggle to fight the system where he is taken to room 101 and Him and Gloria are not able to carry on with their relationship as the totaliarian system brings them down.

Winston is tortured and betrays Julia, (the female character he's in love with) and submits to the power of Big Brother knowing that it is the precursor to his demise!

Not with a bang, but a whimper. Watch this space. Big Brother is already active in the UK - not having much success though!
