I can see where you're coming from but 6 months of verage performance doesn't make him a bad player. No, he doesn't defend or chase for things but thats not his game. His game is to unlock defences and to be fair, for the last few years he has done it regularly. He does things noone else in the world can do and lets be honest here, who would you pay to watch or let your kids learn the game from? Ronaldinho or our overated, work horses (Lampard, Carrick etc).
The players you talk fondly off (on the whole) are the maverick players who do things you never could. Pele, Cruff, Best and from modern times, Gascoigne, Le Tissier and Cantona. Ronaldinho is probably better than most of em. Its just when he's having an average spell, his workrate makes him look poor. When he's good though he's unstoppable.

I completely agree. Yes he seems to have all the skill in the world, but there's no point if you dont use it during the game. Unfortunately people jump on the bandwagon all to quickly instead of making up their own minds!
I have never seen a game he has played that has made me thought 'wow, what a player'. He actually reminds me of Rivaldo -another 'great' player. My one abiding memory of Rivaldo was his 'dropping down dead' incident when a Turkish player kicked the ball at him at the 1998 world cup. I fear I will remember Ronaldinho for his dodgy teeth more than for his footballing genius!
Not even close to Pele, Maradona or Zidane!

I think he needs to get down to some good old fashioned fitness training to sharpen up , then maybe he could cover more than 10 yards in a match and not rely on backing in to players then looking at the ref for a free kick . As for image , a good orthodontist wouldn't go a miss !

He's hit a patch ever since that poor World Cup outing. Every player has their off days. He may not at his best at the moment, but anyone whose seen him at his best knows what he can do. That's why I feel Ronaldinho should be given the same opportunity to recapture his form and confidence.

Barcelona is a Team not a one man Team.
He is over rated..... his work ethic isn't good
Ronaldinho stays on the left, attacks on the left, comfortable on the left, never defends, never supports his left back.....he is so attack minded player, Left sided mided player.
Never the less he'll probably win FIFA world footballer of the year.
because he scores outstanding goals.....he rarely does a tapping goals.
Players like Henry & Gerrard are much more better than Ronaldinho.....because of their work ethics to their clubs.

i think hes still a good player but he is not right at the moment...i dont think playing in a midfield with deco & xavi helps though as they are all a bit lightweight...he probably misses samuel eto as well...i dont just think its ronaldinho, i think that barca have turned a bit like real madrid have over the last 2 years...& talkin about players who are over rated, how on earth does carlos puyol get in that side, let alone be the captain.. he is absolute rubbish in my opinion...

He was out of form at the World Cup and he has carried that forward into this season. When he wants to he can be deadly but he doesn't seem to want to anymore. Maybe Rijkaard needs to bench him for a spell to see if that will waken him up.

Since his brother has been managing him he's very busy with commercial ventures. Whenever he comes over to Europe the Barca. coaches hate it as I've been informed that he's a right tosser[allegedly]. He's doing too much outside of football and needs to recharge his batteries or he'll end up like BIG RONALDO.[did you see what I did there].

He is still a very very good player.
Talented, skilful and full of tricks. The thing with these great footballers are they don't need to be on top of their game in every match. Just one moment of brilliance, and they can be match winner.
That's why they are so precious.
