My dryer is recently requiring 2 cycles to dry the clothes. Is there something I need to inspect/clean/repair?

if clothes are hot at end of cycle, heating element is ok. check and clean lint screen, also clean receptacle where lint screen goes, this can be done with a tool available atmost large home improvement stores,I use a pc. of rubber tubing attached to my shop-vac.also check air discharge line for dips or sharp bend where lint and derbris can accumulate.periodically remove line from dryer and clean discharge.also check air intake (usually a lovered type cover on rear lower corner of dryer) if you are not handy call someone who is,and always turn off power first.

Yes - if you use fabric softener you NEED to take out the lint filter and get the lint off of it like normal and then go to the sink and run cool tap water in it - you will notice that the water stays on top of the filter instead of running through it - this is also happening to the hot air - take a little dish detergent and an old toothbrush and clean it VERY GENTLY in warm water - if you don't clean this every few months it "can" (not saying it will but it can) cause a fire - please do this- -it Will work (not cleaning this can burn up your heating element and cause you to have to call someone to come fix your dryer)

We recently noticed that the area around the dryer was getting very warm and there was a lot of lint. We pulled the dryer out and noticed the vent had come off; my husband put the vent back into the opening and secured it tightly with a ring (sorry I don't know the technical term). We then took apart what we could, vacuumed it thoroughly and it works perfectly.

You may have a burned out element. Call a service repairman and have it checked out. Cost will vary.

Make sure your lint trap is clean, we even take the door apart if necessary and vacuum the inside, it always collects lint. The vent to the outside may need cleaning, this sometimes gets full and will stop the flow of air. You may have to have this cleaned if you can't reach to the outside, if it goes through the walls.

make sure the filter is always clean....
most of the times its not the drier but the washing machine that the problem begins from...
check that the washing machine's spin cycle is working properly because it may not remove all the excess water from your clothes and that could cause a major delay in the drying.

Somewhere there must be a lint trap. Find it and make certain that it is cleared of lint after every use. If it's full, it'll take forever to dry clothes. You also run a fire risk.
