Animals do have the ability to fend for themselves, it's in their nature - we just threaten it for them. But I agree that we should do more as we are their major problem.

I saw 2 adverts in a row last week the 1st was for rspcc-sponsor a child for £2 a month and stop the abuse. The 2nd was for animals, sponsor a bear for £3 a month!!! I totally agree that animals going extinct and being abused need our help but a baby being battered? a child being raped? I'm sorry but I know where I'd rather put my money, it's an animals nature to defend itself to a certain extent, how does a small child defend itself? My cousin has just had 2 major ops, she's 7 years old and weighed under a stone because her mother (not my family) had been starving her. She's got my money over a blind dog

There are thousands of people who are unable to fend for themselves through lack of age, knowledge, financial means or specific needs they might have e.g someone with Down's syndrome being left with nothing to do and neglected in a care home. I believe that the needs of animals is important as well, but you can't deny the needs and rights of many many people with one sweeping statement

that's a very good thought but is it really practical? I care for animals but in all honesty, we need to protect ourselves from ourselves.
If people find a way to solve the problems like poverty and so on, then people will be able to help the animals. Nature survived without humans so it is not a large priority. It's still important but right now the problem with humanity is like a big sore thumb...
if you solve poverty, you will be able to reduce animal abuse because people will have a steady income and not resort to killing animals or illegal logging.

I agree that animal charities should take a leading role, but I also think that educating individuals with appropriate knowledge in areas of animal self reliance should equip more understanding what impact we play on animal reliance everyday.

Animals can fend for themselves or else they would all already be extinct. All though humans are defiantly making it harder to do so by destroying their natural habitat

I'm with you 110%. Animals can't help themselves, only we can help them and care for them. We're the dominant species on the planet its our responsibility. Humans have much more chance of survival and humans are also cause a lot of destruction to nature and kill and destroy animals an their homes.

I don't understand because how can a starving orphan fend for himself/herself? I would much rather help people than animals.
