I wanted to find a list of the names, based on what state and town they came from, to see if there is anyone I know over there.

I'm not looking for anyone specific. I just wanted to see if there was anyone I went to school with who is now serving in Iraq.

When a group is deployed to anywhere there is usually a big send-off ceremony to allow families one formal good-bye as the soldiers leave. These ceremonies are usually announced in local newspapers.

Individiual local guys sometimes get a "deployed" paragraph in a local paper as well.

As far as listings of all soldiers in Iraq or overseas in general, I would suspect that some of those guys may be on "secret" mission status that prevents them from showing up on any deployment lists. Such lists may be classified all together to protect families from terrorist retaliation.

For help locating a particular friend, try formatting his/her name using a military-style e-mail address like this--
john.smith@usarmy.mil

Send a hello messgae to that address. If your friend gets the message, I bet they'll write back.

Which troops are you targeting?
I am sure if you were important enough to someone they would have let you know they were going over to Iraq.
Take care!
