Geckos are small to moderately large lizards belonging to the family Gekkonidae which are found in warm climates throughout the world. Geckos are unique among lizards in their vocalizations, making chirping sounds in social interactions with other geckos. Geckos are unusual in other respects as well. Most geckos have no eyelids and instead have a transparent membrane which they lick to clean.

Lizards are reptiles of the order Squamata, which they share with the snakes (Ophidians). They are usually four-legged, with external ear openings and movable eyelids. Species range in adult length from a few centimeters (some Caribbean geckos) to nearly three meters (Komodo dragons).

Iguanas are larger than your average lizard. Several species of Iguanas are common as pets, especially the Green Iguana in the United States and Canada, which can easily grow to six feet long, even in captivity. When treated well they can be docile, affectionate, litterbox trainable, and even walked on a leash. Such pets are either crèche-raised, or harvested from the wild in Mexico. The average life span of a well taken care of pet iguana is usually 20 years.

Geckos are one type of lizard. Most lizards (if not all) have the ability to drop their tails. It's a distraction technique normally used when a predator attacks them. The idea is the predator is preoccupied with the wriggly tail and the lizard has time to escape. Most lizards will regrow a lost tail. Crested geckos are one currently popular pet species that does not regrow a lost tail.

Geckos and iguanas are types of lizards. Geckos are fairly small, mostly carnivorous though some will eat fruit as well, have "sticky pads" on their toes, don't have eyelids. There are also leopard geckos (and a few other species) that aren't "true" geckos since they don't have the "velcro" toes, and have eyelids. Iguanids are a type of lizard, generally pretty large, and include species such as the green iguana, marine iguana, spiny tailed iguana, crested iguana, rhinocerous iguana etc... They are all robust species with fairly long, muscular tails, same general body shape, and most (though not all) are vegetarians.
