Oh sh*t. Poor you, they do say you are at your most fertile immediately after having a baby therefore you should be more careful. I hope you didn't just ignore this advice. You just have to come right out with it, they cannot be critical of you, one of the definite hazards of having sex is getting pregnant! It's not as if you would plan to be in this situation, I hope. I would try and find out about your rights with regards to maternity pay/leave etc are from the CAB or an employment agency first though. I'm sorry, I don't know about them myself.
I'll bet you were looking forward to a boozy Christmas as well. Poor you, maybe next year!

Congratulations, it depends what you want to do, if your on maternity leave then your just had a baby, so you need to decide if you just want to be a stay at home mum for the pregnancy or work, I think you should tell your boss you want more time as your family is your priority at the moment and enjoy your little ones life as much as you can while you still only have the one and relax and enjoy your pregnancy, the second pregnancy especially within 2 years of the first can be more stressful sometimes.

From what i know in the uk you are entitled to the normal maternity leave with pay and when this time expires you can still have maternity leave but unpaid until the child is 5 so dont worry about this id go and see the citizens advice and thay will tell you your rights good luck and congratulations
FIRESIDE: im not talking rubbish this is the policy in some work places you can have up to 5 years off on maternity leave and iv not once suggested in my answer she cant have children close together you silly woman im glad for her situation and yea you are right her employers dont matter but i would hate for her to loose her job because she is pregnant again so thats why i adviced her to go to the citizens advice to seek more help and advice and prevent this from happening so get your facts right before you start slaging of peoples answers!!!!

I did the exact same thing. I went back in the July and went back on maternity leave in Novemeber. I didn't tell them while I was about 4 months though, as I wanted to be sure everything was okay, and then I wasn't as far gone as I thought I was. I was just concerned about not qaulifying for maternity pay again but I did. Still with same employee and had no problems at all, they were fine and I think they kind of expect it as most women have a second baby sooner rather than later. Go back and tell them when you start back, your not doing anything wrong. Goodluck.

Vicky S is talking rubbish - in the UK you can have as many children as you like - as close together as you want - and have full maternity pay and maternity leave for all of them.
You should have a risk assesment before returning to work and that would be the sensible time, for the sake of the baby, to tell them you are pregnant again.
The least important person, in this case, is the employer. But you do have an obligation to tell them as soon as possible that you are pregnant.
It helps with protecting you and the baby and with planning for your maternity leave.

Ooops...well you can still go back for a while.
Theres not a lot your boss can do about it,the laws the law,but doesnt maternity pay go off your wages from the year before you were pregnant,in effect you will probably only get a percentage of your maternity pay for this second one.
Oh well,good luck hun,2 babies will be harder work than working full time ,but so enjoyable.

Just tell your boss, There is nothing that they can do about it, how someone decides to plan their families is no bodies business and it is not for anyone to judge!And their are laws that allow woman to take time off to have kidds.... you are only 5 weeks pregnant so you can work almost right up until the baby is born! Don't feel guilty about bringing another life into the world! Your kidds will be so close together age wise that they can be such great friends... Congratulations!

When I was on maternity leave I decided I couldnt do the whole daycare thing and decided to resign even though they kept my job open for me! I am a total chicken so I put it in writing! Really who needs the stress? If he's a good boss he will congratulate you. Really, a baby is so much more important then a job, any job. Congratulations to you!

It's not convenient for them but tough, you can't lose your job for it or suffer any demotion type deal or they are guilty of constructive dismissal. If they hire a woman your age it's a risk they run, a long term study actually showed that women are more likely to stay with a company out of a sense of loyalty than men, who are more likely to leave to a rival comany to gain money, so while women take more time off, principally maternity leave, they work out better for a company in the long term.
