Before you tell us Yanks inform your girlfriend of British involvement in the Pacific. I suggest a DVD of "Bridge on the River Kwai". Enjoyable movie too.

Certainally not the REAL story but entertaining enough. Plus the Brits are up to their SAS deeds in it. Oh yeah...William Holden is the wise-cracking American dragged back into it.

I feel plenty of the 'sickening cliches' ought to do with the generation wherein the movies take position; throughout the primary and moment World Wars, the USA had an overly powerful, nearly unanimous feeling of patriotism and help for his or her infantrymen, pitching in wherein they might. When we seem again at the 1940's, it's the heroic studies of brotherhood and perseverance we commonly pay attention approximately. While the script for Peal Harbor could have been cliche and predictable, quality films like Saving Private Ryan bring a equivalent patriotic undertone to the tale. If you seem at movies like Platoon, or Born of the Fourth of July, for illustration, the tone of the tale is way specific, whilst Americans have been establishing to recognize the ugly facet of struggle and protested it. Movies set in latest occasions approximately the present struggle in Iraq appear include a equivalent message.

* The United States has the largest population of people whose working language is English.

* Therefore as an English speaker you are most likely to be exposed to American made films and television programs, which are meant for an American audience.

* Who knows? Maybe there are actually more Chinese or Russian films about World War II, but for obvious reasons they don't get a screening in Greater Union outlets.

i have 2 reason,
why most of (not every) war movie now about america?

1st>most of succes movie in the world was made by hollywood
which pleaces in America

2nd>the president of America today,Mr.George W Bush,was
make war in some place after "terorist" broke WTC in 11
September 2002 (he called that war "crush war")

so people in the world wanna see
what happend in the 20th century war?

If you are watching american movies they are going to have an american point of view. I have seen "foreign" movies about war that definitely have their own point of reference.

ummmm.....most of these movies are made in america......
ever heard of a place called hollywood? if you don't like american movies, watch whatever your own country can produce. nobody's forcing you to watch our movies.

and if your girlfriend is learning history from hollywood movies, i'm sorry, but maybe she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
