my son bought an orange spvc550 mobile in dec.o5 the head set is not working so was told to send it off which cost him £1.22 he then had an email to say it was going to cost £82.00 to repair & if he does not want it done £30.00 to have it sent back apparantly he has to pay because it was more than 6 months old when it went wrong! the phone cost £80.00 when he bought it!

i bought a sony j5 back in 2002 from the carphone warehouse and that thing broke three times whilst i had it, all 3 times they sent me a special delivery envelope to send to a huge mobile repair center in nottingham and it never cost me a penny, unless its changed over the years then that isn't right

You are well covered under your consumer rights.

Try looking at www.consumerdirect.gov.uk for factual advice.

Things like sale of goods act say things have to be fit for their purpose for a reasonable length of time - under one year is not good enough!

Stand up to them, arm yourself with information, and don't be fobbed off with their rubbish!

get onto orange customer care manager, £30 to send it back... rubbish.. someone is trying it on,... good luck
