I just had a massive monster fight with my mother in law and now I am feeling kinda crap in my belly. I am 20 weeks pregnant, and it feels like my belly is really tight, in a really uncomfortable way. It kind of comes and goes, and I am scared for the babies safety. Am I over reacting?

at 20 weeks when you stress, your baby stresses although not entirely at the same time. if you get hot tempered or frightened the adernaline will hit the baby about 10 or so minutes later causing her to turn into a wrestler. most of the time it's nothing to worry about. if you stop feeling the baby move for a long period of time that is when you worry.
by the way when your stomach gets really tight that is usually from the baby streching

Sounds like Braxton Hicks contractions and stress can definitely bring them on. Do the best you can to relax and put your feet up. True contractions are painful and not just tightening in the belly. It sounds like you are prone to stress when it comes to an argument and you need to just relax and accept that sometimes you won't agree with someone and a lot of times when you are pregnant mother-in-laws are the hardest to get along with. Relax and don't worry and it will pass. If you have bleeding or very painful cramps, see your doctor or go to the ER.

Go and call your Doctor for an appointment first....now to deal with your MIL. Tell your husband what's happened and then steer clear. If she gets in touch just tell her how it is - you are not getting involved with anything she has to say or do as you don't need the stress as you need to keep yourself and your baby happy and healthy....end of story. Walk away, put the phone down, pass it to your man just get away from her. Your husband needs to deal with her and if he doesn't and it comes up again then lay it on the line yourself and try to forget about it.

Look after yourself and that baby and your husband, try to relax and go and hear that babies healthy heartbeat to make your day better....good luck.

Nope, you're fine. If it feels the same as when you have sex, then it's probably alright. If it gets worse contact your ob,
