Hey,

Firstly congratulations on the pregnancy!

Secondly, urine infections are common in pregnancy....the important thing is to go to the doctor who will give you a course of antibiotics. This is important as if you have a proven infection, it increases risks for the baby if it is not treated. If it is treated then no problems.

Hope you take the above advice...x

Hi, congratulations.

It is really common to have urine infections throughout pregnancies I had them during all three of my pregnancies.

It sounds like the weight of your womb is pressing down on your bladder and that's why you need to keep going to the loo. You may feel like you need to go to the loo but when you go nothing comes out or your bladder feels really full but only a few drops come out - that's all normal.

Drink lots and lots of fizzy water - that will really help, also cranberry juice every morning when you wake up - before breakfast.

Sometimes these symptoms can mean you have an infection if so you will need antibiotics - so try to see your midwife she'll just test your urine and will let you know if it is an infection or not - better to be safe than sorry because if it is an infection and you don't get proper treatment soon it could lead to other problems so try to get it checked out soon.

Good luck and take care of yourself.

You're pregnant! Your first pregnancy?Congrats! If your in your 5th month the fetus should be big enough to be pressing against your bladder. Just wait, it gets better, in a worse kinda way! Soon the baby will start kick boxing, or doing aerobics on your bladder! It's been known to make many a prego pee their pants! Don't worry, you're in the home stretch. Just do your Kegels, now and esp.after the birth and it'll be fine. Your OB takes a urine sample at each visit(right?) so if you really had an infection, your doctor would have addressed it.

i'm 35 weeks preg and have had 2 uti's in the past 2 weeks . 1st 1 the gave me antibiotics this one they have sent a sample to the lab for analasys. in the mean time they have told me to drink at least 2 litres of water/ diluted fruit juice a day and cranberry juice as the compounds in it help neutralise the acidic nature of myt urine . it could be the baby is lying on your bladder however i thought that and even if youhave no pain you could still have a uti. drink plenty cranberry/ cranberry mix juices and as much water as u can bear it will help flush your bladder and therefore any bugs out. go to you doc witha sample and ask for it to be sent away u should get the results in 3-4 days. over the counter remedies are not safe i pregnancy and in the mean time don't use heavily scented soaps/washes on the vaginal area as this can cause an inbalance in the good bacteria

It's probably normal since you are 5 months pregnant. Just to be safe I would drink more water, avoid sodas or coffee and add in some cranberry juice (in case you have a bladder infection starting up)...but at 5 months the little one is almost always on your bladder forcing you to have to pee. When I was about 5 or 6 months along I had to pee all the time and I had Sciatica which made it hard to walk to the bathroom to pee. If it hurts to pee or you feel like you have to pee and can't, that is more of a concern.

Try lots of water and cranberry juice to flush out your system. Failing that don't take any medication without speaking to a pharmacist or your doctor.

Sachets like Cymalon are good for cystitis, but check with the above first.

Hope you feel better soon and all the best for the future x

Peeing a lot in pregnancy is normal. The baby is putting pressure on your bladder.

A UTI is usually accompanied by other symptoms. I had one at 6 months and I felt like I had really bad flu (sick, shivery, feverish, achey etc) - I also had tightenings and stabbing pains in my stomach, which scared the hell out of me as I thought I was losing the baby.

I went to see my Midwife and she sent me to the hospital for urine tests. I was prescribed antibiotics. They weren't very nice and made me feel sick as a dog but at least they cleared the infection up.

You won't know if its an infection unless you've had a urine test. If it is an infection you need to get it treated, but you cannot take anything thats not prescribed by your doctor to treat an infection especially whilst pregnant - you can try all the "natural" things like cranberry juice but they won't kill the bacteria and if its a UTI you need to get it sorted out ASAP. You need to get something from your doctor as only your doctor can tell you whats SAFE to take!

Go and see your doctor. Its easier and safer for you and the baby.

Your doctor or midwife can pick up any urine infection with your usual pee test. My doctor told me i had an infection (i didn't have any symptoms of an infection tho!) and put me on antibiotics. Next pee test was clear!! Does it sting when you wee? I couldn't stop going to the loo from 2 months till my son was born, i was told this is normal.

I would talk to your doctor. Remember pregnancy will cause increased urination due to the pressure on your bladder. Go get checked out before you take anything for an infection. It may just be a normal part of pregnancy!

u need to see yr dr asap so he/she can prescribe antibiotics safe 4 pregnancy, there's nothing over the counter u can take. and also the dr needs to do a urine test to make sure everything is ok with u.
this is something that can become serious if left untreated
also, drink alot of liquids - herbal teas, water and cranberry juice help alot. i had this a few days ago and wat helped was all the above with a full day's bed rest.
congrats on the pregnancy and i hope u feel better !
