They try to say you won't need upgrade too soon. Just marketing speech for "buy the latest and most expensive - it will give you 2 extra months".

It's just marketing speak. The claim is that the technology in your brand new laptop is so advanced, it will be suitable for years and years. In reality, there's no such thing: computer technology advances so quickly that even the upgradable elements in the laptop will soon be out of date because the new versions won't be compatible. However this is inevitable, so the only thing to do is to buy the best you can afford now, and not worry about the future advances too much.

I bought a 3.2 ghz P4 Toshiba with a 124 mb Graphics Card, 40 gig Hard drive and 520 mb of ram, with DVD recorder and wifi for £400.00 about six months ago..

Fabulous thing - and I will be delighted with it for years, as I don't go looking for what else I could have had for the money, or go worrying about laptops whatsoever.

So - It is totally future proof, and state of the art because I choose to be a totally Ignorant so and so.

If you get into this habit early, you will save yourself a absolute fortune, in cars, I.T, Guitars etc etc etc.
