Critics are basically analysts. Critisism is an art to bring out negative aspects of a book or an event or anything. They study deep analyse and criticise with supporting facts and statistics. Crtitcs play a very important role in our lives by pointing out shortcomings and giving an opportunity to improve for the better.
It is a great achievement to assume the role of a critic as it can be aaquired only wellread and welltrained.

Yes, it's necessary. If you are able to think critically, you can weigh the information that you receive to make the best choices. People with critical thinking skills are less likely to be taken advantage of. Say you want to buy a used car. The salesperson is going to tell you all sorts of stuff about the granny who used to own it and would only drive it to church on Sundays. You, with your skills, can look at it and ask yourself, "A church going granny owned a red Ferrari?"
