I’m temping at the moment, in an absolute mess. The permanent secretary’s back next week and my boss says, “Before you leave, we’ll make it nice and tidy for Lauren’s return!” Whilst I had to sit here all this time in chaos and mess and then she says this on top of it! Blooming cheek.

Leave it in the state you found it! She's obviously happy working ina pig stye - if you tidy it she won't be able to find anything and what do bosses know in any case?

How dare they Tell you Tidy up for the Permanent Secretary,it's a shame you didn't comment on the Mess when you started your Time with them.

But teaching this Sec a lesson, I wouldn't put Fruit in a Drawer to Rot ? I would in my Lunch time go to the Fishmongers and buy a Pair of Kippers and accidentally put them at the back of her Drawer and cover them up {still in their wrapper} with whatever she keeps in the Drawer.
That's on your last Day with them by the way.
Should work a treat, especially if the C/H comes on all over the W/E.
Don't go back if asked when she is next on Holiday or Sick though.

That should do the Trick.

maybe that's why Lauren is not at work perhaps she needs an under secretary to help her if you haven't cleared the mess its probably because she was overworked to start with and you to by the sounds of it and yes she does have a cheek but your moving on leave with a smile and be glad you don't have to face the chaos next Monday morning

Instead of fuming, you could have said something like 'thats a relief. I don't know how she works in all this mess'.
That would have made the point that either she is overworked or not very efficient; without you getting steamed up.
Plus if you get the mess cleaned up, make sure the boss sees; in 6 months time when its a mess again maybe they'll remember you.

why was Lauren away?...did she have to leave in a hurry? maybe a family thing? If her boss overworks her she may not have the time to clear up for YOU.

It's a nice way to end your job....on a high note......maybe the boss will remember that and use you again.or, at least, will use your temp agency again.

If it was in a started there when you left, just (politely) mention that.....preferably after clearing everything up, to stress the difference between *now* and *then*.

Yes, you could do any of the petty ideas listed here. Alternatively - you could leave it beautifully tidy with a welcoming back note. I think that the feeling of superiority and righteousness this would give you would be well worth the effort - try it and see x

Yes it's damn cheeky but you might as well work during the hours that they pay you to be there, what differnce does it really make if an hour or two of that is spent tidying up instead of some other job involving more brain power that they will be paying you the same for?

Tell her it would be a nice thing to do on your last day. Leave the desk as you found it and call in sick on your last day. Tell them you had a dodgy indian (dinner) and you got a bad bout of acute gastroenteritis. Never known an employeer to argue with that. And it makes no difference cause it's your last day. Unless you wanna go back there of course ... in which case you got my sympathy

Wait until an hour before she returns. Pile everything in the room into a giant mess on the floor, then pour lighter fluid all over it. As soon as she comes into the room scream "surprize!" And throw a match into the huge mound of belongings. Then jump out the window and land into a giant trampoline, bounce off into a convertable with a really handsome guy, then drive off far away and live happily ever after.

Or just clean up the mess and swallow your pride.

Hey, making her desk "nice and tidy" is no problem, just pile everything up in neat piles, nobody said she had to be able to find anything afterwards or that the work had to be done!! he only said "lets make everything nice and tidy", you can get the same effect by shoving everything in the bin.....
