You will need to obtain a performing rights licene but your college should already have one. Check with the College admin team and see if you need to get yourself added to it.

oh dear - you realise that copyright laws mean you must have permission/pay a royalty fee for every time you play each record? That could work out very expensive.

It is 'free' to listen to for personal use (well.. free if someone pays for the TV licence) UNLESS its being broadcast or used to entertain larger audiences. That's why many pubs withdrew their entertainment licence and no longer have TV or music. - it got expensive

If you want to run a radio station, you need to get a broadcasting license from OfCom. This includes FM, AM, community, restricted-service and DAB digital stations. For more on licensing, see http://www.ofcom.org.uk/radio/ifi/

Unless you use local bands and amateur musicians who are glad of the free air play..... It works on Myspace.com... have a look and maybe you will get some ideas.

I don't know much about copyright laws but as you are operating out of a college, do they offer law courses there? If so, you could ask one of the lecturers for advice. Or contact the hospital radio station to see how they operate (if you pardon the pun) because they will face similar problems to you.
