Some hopes !
Let us see what will happen if you used a -
[a] Cotton string :
If you swallowed it, it will most possibly be churned within your stomach, and turned into a tangled mass and soon block and choke your small intestines - plus remain there !
But if you 'ate' [masticated and pulverised] it, since cotton is basically an agricultural product, it would be acted upon by the digestive enzymes - and turned into unidentifiable excreta.
[b] Nylon string :
Whether you swallowed or 'ate' it [impossible, since it is synthetic], it will not be digested within your stomach, and get knotted into a tangled mass and immediately block and choke your entire alimentary canal !

you don't mean eating, you mean you'll swallow it.
if it is made of material that is resistant to the hydrochloric acid in the stomach it will pass through your gut undamaged, if it does not contain something that can damage your intestines and stomach, you'll come out of it unharmed, except for a feeling of nausea that occurs when you swallow something that feels like long hair, and possible physical interior damage, you will need the string to be longer than your intestines, about 20 meters will be enough, and you will have to wait at least half a day until it completes the passage, and all that time you need to push it in gently, because your digestive system is not designed to pull strings.
if you succeed, you can tie the bottom end to the top end and let it go in and out forever.
my estimate is that you are most likely to end up in an Emergency Room with some medical staff playing pull the string, which probably bring some of the contents of you lower gut back into your mouth, at the end of the process you can become an honor member of the WIO (world idiots organization).

Yes it would.
It would depend on when the front end passed through the stomach, and if it was in there for a while, a ball would develop and it may not come out without surgery.
I'd try it and get back to us with your own answer.
Go on, you know you really really want to.

If its a cotton string then probably no.
You can try with a plastic line offcourse. And it should be of atleast 20+ ft.

Not sure actually if the stomach acid would see to it that it was eaten to bits to be honest! But if it didn't, in theory, it'd take a good few hours to get thru your system!

Possibly. Or it would be digested in your system, and possibly turn into feces. How would you get it to come out, though? Wouldn't it coil up in a tangled wad?

Ha. That would be excellent. Why no try it? With practice you may be able to do it with rope one day and then you'd never lose a tug-of-war!
