does anyone know what this could be and could it be fixed I have had the laptop for just 14 months

it's bad. Send it back. If it's out of warranty, Make a fuss. no company wants bad PR.

Hi,
I have an Acer laptop and I had the same problem, only the buzzing got louder and louder. I took it back to where I bought it and it had to be replaced as it was unrepairable. Luckily I had a 3 year warranty so it was covered, check out your warranty. Apparently Acers are known for going wrong all the time unfortunately.
Good luck, I hope it is still under warranty.
