We do not need to earn in life if we think of the amount of trouble we go thro' but this is a question of ur survival among several others who may or may not be able to earn for themselves.Try utilising the maximum of what u get and ensure that you get the correct share, nothing more, nothing less. Else you are bound to lose anything extra.

You have to earn the right to be alive. For that you will have to work and earn money with which you can purchase things or do cultivation and make your food by yourself.
Parents are supposed to support their children only up to the age of 20 or so maximum.Even birds and animals do not feed the children beyond a certain stage.

It would have been very very nice if only this question occurs seriously enough in more number of people !
Even now human is the only species that has to 'earn' its living !
We are microscopic minority when compared to all other living beings put together !
Even about 200 years ago, very few had to really 'toil' for food, and still fewer had to 'earn' it !
We have diverted the gift of 'self-awareness' by focusing on material comforts, over the recent centuries and have therefore
been forced to...
1. Use up most of our thought-ability to connect to money value related thoughts (the consequence... loss of other values, like relationships, emotions, ethics, morals etc !)
And,
2. Deprived ourselves the capability to deepen our perceptions (the consequence... we keep asking very basic questions like... what is life, after life, purpose of life, etc.. and not likely to get easy understanding of the answers, for want of material-logic-free mind !)
and have also,
3. Lost the ability to respect and value the gifts of nature like water, air, ozone layer, forests, wild life etc, (consequence... we lost the ability to enjoy the nature's gifts, even if made available somehow).

I suppose it's just a game that we impose on ourselves, like a donkey tempted by a carrot ahead. We all need a purpose for life instead of earning a living, that evokes our motivation and we need to obey the rules that set for ourselves. And during the process,we come to realize the essence of life, otherwise people become lazy and lack of energy. To get motivated,to lead a truly living, not just survival.

Man needs to feel that he has a value. Without worth or purpose, we are lost. It may have a chemical element as well. We sleep better after a hard day of work and feel good about ourselves. It's possible that hard work, physical or mental, releases endorphins just like a runner after a hard run. Unemployed people, unless they find a useful purpose, such a volunteering, are often depressed and have trouble sleeping. It is not necessary to earn monetary rewards, but we must feel useful and that we have value.

a very valid question for an adult. in one line, it's part of being a grown up. responsibilities call for us to earn our living.

my parents have not stacked huge chunks of gold biscuits or diamonds so that i can live off on it. i'd rather earn my way in life than to eat or make merry for free.

and a more theologically oriented answer would be...because of sin, we have to earn and work hard in life. it's a "have to earn to live" situation.
