You are a member of a minority group and you look for a better paid job. Someone from the majoritary group sends you a job offer that targets specifically people from you minority group (they want to hire someone from that group to work with problems occuring in that particular group). Would you feel that the person that sends you the job offer reduces you to you minority group identity and feel offended by this?

OK. So the person did got offended. Can someone explain me why (except for the reason I think it did and I mentioned above)?

If the job offer would help my minority group, and I got paid for it, yeah, I think I would take it. Why would you feel offended if it were something that would be a positive in both directions?

I can't imagine I'd be offended in that situation. I would understand that they'd want someone from the minority group to deal with problems in the minority group, because it often works better to have "one of them" dealing with it than someone else who doesn't fully understand the minority group and the problems it faces.

I would feel offended though if I was a member of a minority group and was offered a job for the only reason that it would fill some minority group quota in that company or something. I'd feel like they weren't valuing me as an individual and just wanted me so they could show that they hire minority group members too and put on an innocent face when they discriminate someone.

So if the job itself has to do with dealing with a minority group or issues related to minority groups I'd understand, but if the job had nothing to do with that and I got hired for simply being in a minority group I'd be offended.

I would be glad that they would recognize my abilities, even based on my "group" My brother got a very good job working on road work because he was Native American, and at that time many "moons" ago they needed to fill their minority quota. But he just retired last year after earning good wages and nice retirement. Now a days we use what we can to get ahead.

No, that was just what you were asking for. Take a look back over your question and see how you worded it. We get what we ask for and no offense taken. You are now on your way to a better job, making more money and doing some thing you like.

Naaaa!. I would figure that I ws the best person for the job! You won't get a better paying job by being offended and looking for ways to be just that. Get off your perch and fly!
