Dreams are our subconscious asserting itself. We dream about things that our subconscious has been occupied with but which our conscious self never realises.

I have heard several theories about what dreams are -- mostly originating form psychologists over the years. But none of these theories was supported by a single shred of evidence.

The best explanation I can find comes from esoteric / spiritual writings.

These writings explain that we have not only a physical body, but an astral body. It is the astral body which leaves our physical body when we dream during sleep.

In fact we can even train ourselves to be conscious during this and even control our conscious dreams. Thus, you can experience your own evidence about what a dream actually is.

The Gnostic society offers free courses on learning how to do this. You can also find out more information by researching 'astral travel' on the Net.

Cheers
