There was no Whitney Houston song at the 1996 Atlanta Games. The Olympiad's official theme, Summon the Heroes, was written by John Williams, making it the third Olympiad for which he has composed. The song "The Power of the Dream", composed by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and David Foster, with words by Linda Thompson was performed in the opening ceremony by Céline Dion accompanied by Foster and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Centennial Choir. Gladys Knight sung "Georgia On My Mind"(Georgia's anthem) at the opening ceremony. The closing ceremony featured Gloria Estefan singing "Reach", the official theme song of the 1996 Olympics.

However, Whitney Houston "One Moment in Time" was a song recorded for the 1988 Summer Olympics held in Seoul, South Korea. The song was written to be included on the 1988 Summer Olympics Tribute Compilation Album, featuring artists such as The Four Tops, The Bee Gees, Eric Carmen, and others in addition to Houston. The song was ultimately released as the first single to further Houston's career.
