Never. Twisting words is what politicians do. That's why so many of them used to be reporters.

Lets see now: If you're smart enough you'll study hard and be successful and as an added benefit avoid joining the dumb bastards in Iraq. Did Kerry say something like that?
Of course I'm just an old fart who only earned a G.E.D (didn't even graduate high school!!) and couldn't possibly understand what this college-grad intellectual was trying to say.
PS: What I have just written is not a joke (misunderstood or otherwise) so I feel no need to APOLOGIZE.

I for one did not have to twist the words of Mr. Kerry. They were plainly there for all to see and hear for themselves. What you fail to understand is that even though he may have been trying to attack the president, he inadvertently demeaned the troops. When your words cause insult even due to misinterpretation you should apologize for the misunderstanding to those you maligned by mistake. Apparently this is not just a Republican position as many mainstream Democrats were saying exactly that yesterday. Mr. Kerry has apologized for his comments to the troops and I for one am satisfied. However, your position betrays your partisan attitude. Some Democrats, especially hardcore liberals make vile statements about Republicans repeatedly with less fact or justification than was possessed in this instance, but when it comes to one of their own exhibiting bad behavior, rather than call them to task for it they instead attack the other side and try to make less of the actual offense. Before you start all the name calling against other groups you should get your own house in order. In closing, this issue with Kerry was one about morals and integrity. Conservatives claim to believe in these ideas and liberals try to take them to task for it all the time. Here again when Republicans make a statement based on morals many of the opposition fail miserably as they circle the wagons to protect their icons.

Kerry has spent his entire career bashing the military. First he lied to Congress about "atrocities" in Vietnam and compared the US troops to "Genghis Khan". Then he covered-up the POWs still remaining in Vietnam. Then he spent his entire Senate career gutting the military every chance he got, without fail!

This is just the latest instance in the pattern of Kerry's entire life attacking the US military.

They ignore the fact that Kerry has been a consistent supporter of the troops and veterans for all 21 years of his Senate career and has been an important ally of McCain on military issues. None of that matters because of one slip of the tongue or injudicious joke.

But this statement by the commander in chief shows NOTHING about HIS concern for the troops:

"As you can possibly see, I have an injury myself -- not here at the hospital, but in combat with a cedar. I eventually won. The cedar gave me a little scratch. As a matter of fact, the Colonel asked if I needed first aid when she first saw me. I was able to avoid any major surgical operations here, but thanks for your compassion, Colonel." --George W. Bush, after visiting with wounded veterans from the Amputee Care Center of Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, Jan. 1, 2006

hee, hee, hee

I think it is hysterical that liberals really think that conservatives don't know what is going on here. Let's see, I hate to use the words you used, (stupid and idiots), but none of this would have happened if JK would have paid better attention to his notes. He clearly opened the door for a world-wide snafu.

Kerry boldly said what he said and do you or any of us know what he meant to say or what he wished he had said or what the Democratic Party wished he had not said? For sure, we know what he said will never be said again, at least not in public.

hee, hee, hee Conservatives are not bullies, just enjoying immensely the "hoo-fa-rah"!

GOP House Majority Leader John Boehner appeared this afternoon on CNN, where he said that Donald Rumsfeld shouldn't be hung out to dry for Iraq. According to a transcript excerpt posted at AMERICAblog, Wolf Blitzer interrupted Boehner to note that, as secretary of defense, Rumsfeld is in charge of the military. Boehner's response: "But the fact is the generals on the ground are in charge, and he works closely with them and the president."
Should Boener apologize to the military?

Well, I don't like Frankenkerry at all.

On the other hand, he DID state the truth- if you have a draft, and you have money for College, you don't go into the military because its called an educational deferment.

If you can't hang at College, you'll be shot at in war. Just like in Viet Nam

I sent Kerry a short note that even tho I don't like him, I did applaude him in this case for telling the truth.
