What's the best way to clean the old hardback book covers?

Presently I've bought some old hardbacks to read and collect and most of them are not clean, that is, they were read and had passed various situations since 80-100 years ago. Is it all right to wipe them with warm water and let them dry?

yes it just just make sure the cloth is not too wet or you'll spoil the book covers.
