that is generally for heads of state(politicians and royalty alike) and church although i have heard the term assassination used in relation to the murder of John Lennon whether or not this is an example of correct usage of the term I'm not sure but i guess its some sort of precedent enabling its use to describe the murder of super famous celebrities.

its not what or who they are that makes their death an assassination but y the died if their death was because of a political thing or caused 1 then its assassination
