I'm just curious to how everyone feels toward abortion. Should it be legal? Should there be restrictions on it?

I am pro-choice by the way, just in case anyone was wondering.

For you pro-lifers... if you (or your wife/girlfriend) was preagnant, and the baby was implanted in the falopian tubebs and there was no way the baby would live, but your (or your wifes/gfs) life was in danger, would you want an abortion

Abortion should not be regarded as a method of birth control. It must be remembered however that even when used with the greatest care there is no method which is 100% effective (other than sterilization that is), accidents do happen. How one handles these accidents is a matter of personal choice for the woman who finds herself pregnant. The great enemy in this area is ignorance, without adequate sex education our Young people (and a great many adults) are quite unprepared to take care of their own well being. The narrow minded people who fight against sex education are doing nothing more than add fuel to an ever growing fire. This can be seen clearly when looking at figures which show that the US has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted illnesses in the developed world.
My serious argument is against those in society who feel they have the right to make laws regarding matters of personal belief putting their own ideas above those who do not feel the same. If you do not want to have a termination do not have one, that is fine but how dare you tell others that they may not. My understanding of the definition of democracy is "The government of the people, by the people, for the people" and not the government of the people, by a section of the people, for everybody. You have the right to enjoy your personal freedoms and opinions but you must remember that every right carries a responsibility - the responsibility to allow others the same freedom that you yourself enjoy. Failing to defend the right to freedom is nothing more than a shortcut to dictatorship.

Im replying after much thought and a lot of re-reading of both the question and its answers.Im an expectant mother myself in the early stages of my pregnancy and I tell you my heart shudders at the very mention of this horrid word.
So much so that I did not have the guts or the heart to take a look at some of the sites one of you listed here.Yes it is awful.Gruesome.Painful.
But,not only for the child , the mother as well.
Infact everything in a woman changes after this. Its an extremely painful for the woman too.No woman wants to kill her own child.Say if I were someone who had a nice time and later shun responsibility, then Im a wench who deserves disgrace. But if I am a poor woman who knows that maybe at some point of time I may have to see my child die of a disease I cannot afford cure for or worse still if I know my child would die of starvation,I would rather subject myself to this pain than the former.Again, even if I decide to go ahead and later give the baby away for adoption, there is no garantee that the person who takes home my child is not a paedophile, theres no assurance that the baby will not be exploited. There are many issues other than rape and medical complications involved here.
In the end all I wish to say is that abortion is very painful to a fetus, undoubtedly cruel and heart rendering, but its even more painful to the mother and that too in more ways than one.
I dont support it,esp now that Im expecting, but I dont condemn the women who are forced by unchangeable circumstances to subject themselves to excruciating physical pain and shocking mental trauma.
P.S-To Mrs Fine
No form of Birth control is 100% safe.
Condoms are 99%
Pill are 97%
Dissapointing isnt it?
I also know many women who concieved even after having a copper-t inserted.

It is legal...If it weren't then how are all these abortion clinics still open?

I am for abortion. All women have the right to choose cause it is their body and no one else's.

I would have an abortion for the following reasons:

1.If my life/health was in danger of carrying the baby (I would abort)
2.If i were raped (I would abort)
3.If i had gotten pregnant at a very young age
4.If something was bad wrong with the baby and knowing that it would live a horrible life then i would abort

I have never had an abortion but i am for it
Some people call it murder but i don't cause if it was then why or how can a doctor that takes an oath to do no harm?

I do however think people should not use abortion as a form of birth control

Yes, it should be because if it wasn't, then women would go ahead and have it done anyway by back-street abortionists. This would lead to even more deaths .. not just the babies but also some of the pregnant women through infection. Women have to have the choice to have it done in a sterile, controlled environment. At the end of the day, they have to answer to their own consciences and live with the consequences. No-one else can make that decision for them.

What a loaded question!

I think it should be legal but with restrictions. I think said restrictions should have to do with a psychological examination of the mother to make sure her intentions are not just another form of contraceptive (1st abortion) as this would be total irresposibility and that she understands future incidents. Maybe I didn't word that right, but I have know a gal to have 4 abortions in a few years, and it sickens me.

On the otherhand, who would regulate this? The Government? Good luck!! I would say keep it legal and make sure all persons involved in the procedure are duly licensed in both medicin and mental health, and a very unique hypocratic oath (attempted to be) enforced.

I feel the government has to much control as it is so it should be legal or I should say not illegal. I am against abortion but I am also for less government. Education is the key to this problem. No restrictions, we need to start letting people decide issues for themselves and stop letting Uncle Sam make these decisions for us. I know alot of people disagree but look in the past and you will see how poeple respond when something they want to do anyway is made illegal. Back Alley abortions, bathtub operations, etc. Look at Prohibition. I could go on but I am getting off the point.
Abortion should not be a political agenda or a government issue.

Yes it should REMAIN legal. Should NOT be used as a birth control method should NOT be carried out after 16 weeks, because it is VERY possible for the fetus at that stage to survive outside the womb and if the fetus is a BORN human then the person who ends that life will be committing murder. Therefore abortion should only be done when there is no chance of survival outside the womb for the fetus.

In my opinion I think it should NOT be legal other than if it involves the life or death of the women. Although I still would not have one no matter what the circumstances. Here is something I wrote a while back.

It's called ADOPTION. Stop being so selfish. I have had 2 unexpected pregnancy's and I could not imagine being so selfish to have an abortion NO MATTER what the situations. In fact I am pregnant w/ of my unexpected pregnancies right now; and if a doctor told me today I had cancer and needed treatment I would say NOT TODAY, Not until my child is born! And If worst came to worst and I couldn't raise my child then I would put him/her up For adoption. It is sad how people have children/get pregnant and don't want them and people who want them can't have them. And just because it is Legal doesn't make it right! Abortions are just another excuse for people not taking responsibility for there own actions.
"Life is present from the moment of conception.”

If you think abortion is right then you should visit these sites:

And if you still feel it is right then you are a cold hearted selfish waste of human being and need to get your head checked!

The activity of a sturdy mom is to advance her new child to independence. Then the new child ought to have the flexibility to make their own judgements. Abortion did no longer weigh very intense with god as he did no longer placed it interior the ten commandments. He did we are informed say "thou shalt no longer kill", yet seems to have allowed it in such loads of different circumstances(ie smiting philistines, sacrificing the 1st born, plaguing egyptians to loss of existence, no longer suffering witches to stay, stoning adulteresses), that that's slightly confusing to be sure him completely wholehearted in this one. i'd possibly on no account choose to be dogmatic on what the Lord needs. that ought to be very boastful. i individually might like human beings to take perfect precautions to dodge undesirable being pregnant. Abortion isn't often a sturdy undertaking yet is maximum suitable prevented. merely from the perspective of a girl's well-being and happiness. it would be a level of final hotel.

No, we Americans are way, way too stupid to ever make choices for ourselves. We need big governement to help make that choice for us. We need to have government tell us how we decide our lives or how can we ever live? Okay I hope you are picking up my sarcasim.

I am a pro-choice person, but I have never used it and never would use abortion, I just think it should be our right to decide it. Like most decisions, I think YOU will make the best decision for you rather than having someone make it for you. Who am I to tell you what you should or shouldn't do, and who are politicians to decide your personal life. I would never have an abortion, but it should be a choice we make, not the govt.
