It was a technical feat meant to one up the Soviet Union.
There is no air or water there. No plants no animals.
Probably minerals but not much else.
Humans will get there when there is a motivation to do so.
Motivation meaning $$.
Probes much cheaper and safer that sending humans into space .
I am in full support of space exploration and really think probes the way to go.

There has been no moon landings because 1) they would be costly 2) there's no real scientific (or other) reasons to make manned trips to the moon at the moment and finally 3) missions like that put astronauts in serious risk. There's problems even with space shuttles. We have to remember that the first landings were mostly PR-stunts, and though some scientists think it would soon be reasonable to make another manned mission to moon, there's just no point in risking human lives and serious amounts of money for that. Now, mission to Mars is completely another thing...

because they didn't land there to begin with and if you noticed that to my knowledge NASA never spoke of the issue of going back again, and iv read about a documantry that involved donald ramsphiled that spoke of it not being real, one man Ralph Rene kept watching the video of the landing and asked this question:
"How can the flag be fluttering?" and that's a very good question knowing that there is no wind on the moon.
