whoa..good luck, i was addicted to that game for a while, and once you're on a mission...you're on a mission. The only thing that got me away from it was school, sex, and money. Finals forced me to forget the game, i was getting some constantly so i was seduced often...and then .....i was tired of payin for it!
In your case...you might have to give him a better hobby than warcraft..*hint* *hint*....but even if THAT doesn't work....you're gonna have to ask him where his true priorities are..is it just some dumbass game that won't make him money or feed him...or the woman who actually GIVES him real life pleasure (rather than virtual), and also a career or job that's gonna help him live?
Otherwise if you can't beat em, join em...and get yourself a WOW account of your own.

Don't ween him. Get him to go cold turkey.
I used to play another mmo, but I realised that I'd been doing exactly the same thing for several hours a day for the last 2 weeks, and would be doing the same thing for many more weeks to get where I wanted to be. That was the point where I said, screw it, no game is worth this much of my time. My character might very well still be on the database, maybe I should sell him on eBay...
Anyway... the point I was trying to make: show him that he isn't really having fun with WOW, and it's just sucking the life out of him. Show him some other online games that don't require such and input of time, like Kingdom of Loathing or Dragon Court, or many others like that. With those games, you can't waste your life on them, because after about half an hour there's nothing left to do until tommorrow.

My brother had the same issue...he was hooked on that game. He was on his laptop every free second he had. He realized he had an addiction, so he started "selling" all of his posessions. Like gold, silver, armor. (All the random things collected and traded in the game). Then he gave all the gold and stuff to his friends account. Causing his friend to become more hooked then he was. So my advice is to suggest to him to either find a different game, that isn't a rpg. Or a mean way is to cancel his subscription. I hope something works. Bottom line- it's just a game( remind him of that). The real world is more important.

My fiance said "There is no such this as ex-WOWers...once you start a game you can't stop...it's addicting" My fiance is actually obsessed with Final Fantasy XI, which is another mmorpg (online game). Try and tell him your feelings about it. I tell my fiance he has a time limit, haha! Maybe get him a game that can be paused. That's my issue with FF XII...he plays constantly and it can't be paused. Or maybe if you give him a limit each day then make the time limit shorter each time. I dunno...good luck though! I know how it is!

It was the trading cards that did it for you? Come on, people collect things all the time. would you rather it be trading cards or say..porn? or guns? or even worse? For an addiction, it's pretty harmless.
Why should he give up what he has fun doing just because you Suddenly decide that you don't like it? If he likes football, and you get sick of it, will he never be allowed to watch another game again?
Instead of controlling his life, shouldn't you love him for who he is, faults and all, and if you can't, find a non gamer boyfriend!

dont ween him off of it... lol just have the internet service turned off for a few days. and make sure that while he cant play WoW that hes having fun some other way. that way he'll realize he can have fun without WoW. then get the net back. he shouldnt be addicted to it anymore.

*Chuckles* Good Luck.
Main suggestion would be to find something that he enjoys doing more, Weaning people off MMORPG Addiction is not easy. It's a lot like smoking, drug addiction and the like. Weaning won't typically work because the Lure will just drag the person in More.
I do wish you Luck.

Give him another addictive game to play with. If he refuses, give around 10-30. Simple.

Start taking him places and filling him with other things to do. Be creative. No matter what, don't let him put the game between you two.
