About a month ago I saw an advertisement for a handheld device that you could point at the sky at night and it would tell you what star constellatoin you were looking at. I have searched for a while now on the internet and can't find anything like it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I dont think that it is still very expensive. It might have been a few years ago but I know that in Japan cell phones have the technology that I am talking about. So it cant be that bad.

You are probably referring to the Sky Scout by Celestron. It's about $400.00

Yes, my sister gave me one of those a few years ago. I know my way around the sky without that kind of help, so I gave it away to someone -- no longer remember what it was called. I don't think it was particularly cheap. It's the sort of thing you'd find in one of those educational science stores but would NOT find in, say, the Orion catalog, which is for serious amateur astronomers.

All I can think of is a planisphere - that's made out of paper/plastic.
