The top three cities the military recruits from in the US are 1. Houston, 2. San Antonio, and 3. Dallas

Texas already produces 1/3 of the energy for the US & Canada (ERCOT).

Texas has enough Natural and Oil Production support itself.

For every $1.00 Texans' pay in federal taxes $0.70 comes back in federal programs (comparrison to Massachusetts that for everyone $1.00 they pay they get $2.12 back).

So why should Texas be part of the US?

Other problems are ... since Texas is part of the US we are a target of Terrorist and we have to fight wars to secure the oil reserves of the US... We should be defending Texas not a foreign nation that is sucking us dry ....

Shouldn't Texans be given the right to vote themselves peacefully out of the United States???

Some of you may think this is a silly question, but it's really not. There is a trend, especially in Europe, for returning more power to states/provinces. Scotland now has its own government that decides most if not all of their domestic affairs. Catalonia in Spain wants independence. A few years ago Quebec came very close to leaving Canada. The fact of the matter is, culturally, the southern part of the U.S. is just really different then the northeast and western parts of the United States. Take a look of a map showing where the "red" states are and the "blue" states. See a trend? Just think about it; wouldn't a lot of you blue state folks be happier joining Canada in some great big socialist experiment?

I live in Texas and with all this terrorism going on since 9/11 we have been cut from oil riggs and gas prices have gone sky high because of this. We don't control the oil. Refinery work suffer from this. Texas is a strong state, don't get me wrong. We have helped out other states in tragedy, such as the suffered from hurricate Katrina, Rita - I know for sure that many of those people from New Orleans that suffered the loss of such a tragey they were able to stay at the Marriott Hotels, my father works there and the Marriott is suffering a great deal from this, but we are all indviduals who may work our a**es off all our lives and lose everything through a tradgety such as this. The Department of Human Services has handed out so much help that I don't ever know if this is going to be the same again. They are still handing out helping hands to other locations because there are so much more demands for help than they were everr even close to having before. Texas is a strong state but not at all anywhere near becoming it's own. Why would you want to not be apart of the United States of America in the first place? U.S.A is a wonderful country to be apart of.

Is this a serious question? I seriously doubt your "facts" regarding those cities as the top three. I lived in Texas for years and still have many Texan friends, and I hardly think they would approve of this idea. Some of the most patriotic Americans I know are from Texas.

OK. I give. You're the Lone Star State.

The only country that was a country before it became a state.

Except for the Bear Republic. So wait 'till California splits in half (just a big earthquake away!) and we'll both go together and have some really good bar-ba-que... with decent margaritas...

If the people there can't elect smarter politicians than Goodhair Perry, John Cornyn and Kay Hutchinson, maybe we oughtta throw Baja Oklahoma the hell out.

Why Not. Ship the bush from washington D.C. back to texas. I say we let them become their own country or whatever and then we as the united states can legaly go to war against them in our own country over oil as opposed to overseas it would be cheaper.

Texas is just Texas. Just leave it as is. Who knows? One day Congress will finally pass a bill to allow Washington D.C. to become a full-fledged state.

Texas should stay in, but start enforcing laws and vote some Democrats into office. And stop wearing all those cowboy hats & cowboy boots. Cows pollute a lot.
