I know that a diary is one's personal memoirs for the eyes of the author / owner only

But is it really?

By this, I mean what happens if (heaven forbid) you were killed or died? You know that this would mean that your diary would be found and more than likely, read. Does this ever cross your mind and concern you, or is it not something that you ever think about?

Thanks guys - I'm just curious....

your right..but im sure most people don't really think about that when they're writing a diary. i mean i dont write in diaries anymore, i just used to when i was little. but i would imagine that if something important enough happens, and thats why they're writing in their diary, they're probably not thinking about what would happen if someone were to read this..

hope i helped.

I have always thought about this while writing in my journal...but I feel that if something did happen to me, my journal may be a way for my children to learn something about me. It may not all be the best information about me, but it would be the real me. And I would love to find something like that of my mother's after she passes away...kind of an autobiography of her life.

To be honest, I'm not afraid of showing my journals. Of course, any "deep dark secrets" are not things I write down anyway. Actually, I keep my journals out in the open in case my husband wants to read them (which he does). It allows me to be able to share myself with him when I can't think of the words to actually say.
