oh sorry *L* the younger gen eh?? ok so maybe I won't tell ya that my mom was a key punch operator, or that I helped my uncle build a modem from a heath kit in 1973- I find it so amazing though that we sent men to the moon with computers that were so big that they needed entire building wings to house them and their own refrigeration systems to keep cool but they did not store as much data as today's xbox *LOL*
we have come a long way baby!

In JR High School we used a system call MAC, if I remember right. This was an IBM teletype which batched down to the University of Penn Campus main frame. The machine could only output on computer printer paper and recorded by punching a type of ticker tape. The system was especially slow since it was on a time sharing system with users at other remote terminals. The main frame at Penn took up a large room.

They weren't anything like the PCs we have today. They were really huge compared to what we have today. They were set up in large rooms that had to be kept at a certain temperature. The computer programmers and techs had to learn a whole special language. I got to see the one that Metropolitan life Insurance had in San Francisco, when my ex-husband worked there, in the seventies, as a computer programmer. I remember him bring home big binders to learn the language. If I remember correctly it the program language was Cobal.
Now he doesn't know as much about his PC, now, as he did about that "monster" computer back then! I would never have dreamed that one day I would know more about a computer than he does.
Here is a site that has computer history:

I heard they were as big as a room, I was born in 73. But did not see an actual computer until the 80's. My rich uncle was the first one in our family to have one. He owned a business.
