I was bit by a golden finch once. It hurt but no need to go to the doctor.

When you are bitten by any wild animal you should go to the Doctors or Hospital and let them know what kind of animal bit you. They will probably give you a rabies shot. Since it was a porcupine and not a venomous animal and some antibiotics for the wound marks.

Porcupines carry rabies. usually a porcupine would run away if a human came near, so if it stuck around and bit you, that is a bad sign. Did you capture or kill the porucpine? if you did then the hospital lab can check it to see if it has rabies!
VERY IMPORTANT - if you are bit by an animal that has rabies, you get the disease. If they start you on the rabies medicine before you get sick, you will live, but if you wait until you feel sick, you will probably die even if you get the medicine.
Yes, die, as in dead!
So, you need to talk to your MD about this as soon as possible!

If possible to confine the animal it would be helpful for your local animal control but, if not... don't put yourself at risk for being bitten again. Seek medical attention because if you haven't had a tetanus shot in the last 5 years, you will need one. Also, It is possible that the porcupine was rabid, the doctor will discuss with you whether you need the rabies vaccine or not.

My little boy is 3 and half years old and was bitten on the toe which drew blood by a wild porcupine while on holiday in Turkey. He had his normal jabs when he was 6 months old including tetanus.
Do I need to be worried. There is no doctor near by for miles and miles. We are in a very remote place.

A tetanus jab at your local GP or hospital should do the trick. In the meantime, give your wound a good wash with soap and water, and dress it up properly to prevent infection. In any case, a porcupine bite shouldn't be dangerous nor poisonous. The tetanus jab is more of a prophylaxis.
Take care.

How did that happen?! Porcipines are not poisonous, but they can transmit disease. You need to go to the doctor it be put on general antibiotics, to be given a tetanus shot, and probably to start your rabies series. I'm not going to lie - the rabies series is supposed to be awful.

Get to a doctor. They carry rabies and all sorts of other nasty diseases. Don't be surprised if you get a Tetanus shot.
Good Luck

You got close enough to one that he bit you??? Should feel the quills in your bod first....dint you here there hissss?? or there quills shacking before they hit you?
They are not venomous you may want to go see your doctor so he can finally say he had someone bit by one though....and so you can get a tetanus shot.

Porcupines are typically fearful animals so if they bit you.. GET CHECKED FOR RABIES. Antibiotics do not treat rabies, but they do treat infection.
