I think John Kerry is a botched joke and his parents should have apologized a long time ago to the American people.

I had so hoped I was so all done answering this question.
Kerry told a joke & botched the punch line. The Grand Old Party has taken this football are really spun it out of context. I have listened to what Kerry said, several times. My understanding is this:

Do everything you can to get a good education. Without one, one of your few options to make a living in this world is to enlist in the military to be trained as cannon fodder to be sent to war (Iraq). That is it. No comment about the intelligence or bravery of military people in general. It was meant to take a jab at the administration's party for getting us into that quagmire. Nothing more.

I have a son & grandson in the Army. My son was a recruiter for over 2 years. They would take anybody who could get a GED, had only a minor arrest record, and pass a drug test. This was at the start of the Iraq War. Some intelligent people came to him to enlist with the idea of maybe a military career. They received advanced training guarantees with specialized training. But, most of his recruits were unmotivated, had very spotty school & work records, generally had drifted into drugs & alcohol &/or petty crime. They looked for a way out of a dead end life. The military was a chance to earn a liveable wage & maybe change their lives. They didn't qualify for advanced training & the money that goes with it, but they could sign for non specialized combat training, hopefully learn some discipline, & get a boost in pay if they went to a combat zone. These were the guys Kerry was talking about.

I do not like or trust the guy. I hate worse the twisted spin some politicos give to a statement to smear the opposition. And that is exactly what the elephant people did. And got away with it. By the way, the Dems aren't much, if any, better.

It wasn't a "botched joke" at all. Kerry claims he was attempting to criticize President Bush; however, the context of his comment doesn't jive with Kerry's claim. In his comment, Kerry compares the plight of those who have a good education with those who do not. Those who have a good education do well; those who do not have a good education, end up "stuck in Iraq." Those who are "stuck in Iraq" are the men and women in the military - not Bush.

This is not the first time Kerry has made deragatory statements about the military.

I believe it is a sad day in this country, when the entire governing administration portrays such a sissy fit over a joke gone array, instead of placing that energy toward a plan to fix the "Botched War" it got us into. Simply put, I strongly believe our fighting men and women in the military, will be able to sustain this latest "Blunder" that the news media has seen fit to cover, and spread with such vigorous bias throughout this nation. I truly have to state that this administration has no leg to stand on, as far as who is causing harm to those who serve our country. What a shameless cowardly display of "SPIN" to save their own pitiful behinds.

THE ANSWE: You are so ignorant in your answer. . .Sen Kerry was making fun of Bush by suggesting that he just barely "GOT BY" in College, which caused him to get "STUCK" in Iraq. Read the facts sweety "before" you ANSWER!.

Admitting up front that I am too moderate to like Sen. Kerry.. Let me say that no matter how he explains it.. Even if it was directed at Bush.. How is getting sent to Iraq to get shot at and blown up funny.

I think his "joke" wasn't that far off but the GOP is using it for a smear campaign.

How many educated, rich people are on the front lines? The rich and educated are the ones telling the uneducated to go there. The more education one has, the further from danger they tend to be and the shorter their tour of duty.

The GOP and American public can't handle the facts...with no education and money, one career choice for you is "BULLET CATCHER." Lets hope too many of this country's poor don't opt for that career move...better to pump gas.

I know I'll be black balled for saying this but better a black ball than an insincere lie. By saying this, its obvious I'm not going for points!

His true colors are showing, who gets so many metals for such a short time in combat...must be the greatest "hero" ever. Give him another Purple Heart for shooting himself in the foot.
