they're always there, they comfort you, make you laugh, shock you. you can spend all day with one & feel as though your time was well-spent. they don't mind having coffee with you anytime you want.
they speak to me & sometimes i feel like they listen as well. do you ever get the feeling that an author has articulated exactly what you're feeling at that moment in time? that's something i find with my actual friends, we trade common feelings in words.

They take us outside our restrictive little tunnel-vision lives. We can become other people... think their thoughts, feel their feelings, see through their eyes, and live their experiences. Anything we could possibly desire to do, feel, see, think, ponder, is in a book somewhere, and books rock because they require only that we read them... No matter what people might say or do in our lives, a book can always be there to take us away... Books allow us to broaden our thinking, and give us viewpoints that we'd never thought of ourselves. They don't give us hangovers, and an overdose on reading has yet to prove fatal or permanently health-destroying.

Books are our friends because:
1 they introduce us to other friends, characters in the story and by leading us to other books
2 They keep us company on a cold, rainy afternoon or anytime we may be feeling lonely
3 they share their hopes, dreams and fears with us
4 they teach us new skills, maybe cooking or a craft
5 they bring to us new concepts and ideas
6 and they don't judge us, just share themselve wholeheartedly

They are our friends because when you're feeling down, you can read, and the book will like...Take you to a different universe.

Books are like friends, because they entertain us if we are bored. Books are like friends because they can enlighten us when we are confused. Books are like companions to us when we are lonely. They comfort us just like a friend would do.

They have information and stories in them...they're becoming less and less popular with kids these days...with their iPods and cell phones, but I love a good book.
Oh, and I'm not an old codger, by the way...I'm 18.

They leave us emotions as our friends, and we can learn a lot of things from them.
