Just finished reading it! Oh my God! Just a great book. Anyone else love it as much as me?

LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! Did I mention I liked it? I knew from the beginning it was completely fictional, so jumping into it from there was awesome! The true history of the art, though, was incredible. I even searched for a lot of it online to get a better visual of what Dan described. And an INCREDIBLE ending, huh?! Great subject, thanks!

I have a thought it badly written and historically ludicrous - I do hope you don't think there's any real-life truth in it.

The Priory of Sion was a 20thC hoax and has been well and truly exploded, notably in a documentary by the UK TV Channel 4. Opus Die exists but has no monks. Constantine did not order the censoring of the Bible. The Council of Nicea had nothing to do with which books were included in the Bible. The Chapel of Saint Sulpice is hopping mad at the way its history has been altered and the brass line's purpose changed to fit the author's odd theories. Europe's geography is messed around (how difficult would it have been to use a map?) There is no evidence whatsoever that Mary Magdelene went to France and no evidence that she was pregnant at the time. Besides, this is all supposed to take place 2,000 years ago, if Jesus had a kid who survived, by now just about everyone of European descent is related to Him.

Did you notice how everybody spoke the same way? There are no individual voices at all and just try reading the opening sentence aloud - the prose is like walking on broken glass.

Worth reading once to find out what all the fuss is about - not worth reading again.

i jumped on the da vinci bandwagon when it was huge and thought that the book was amazing... reading it again recently, i thought it was ok, but didnt have the same impact as it did then... i think now i realised that even though the concept was excellent and really original, the way the book was written isnt that great... it seemed really rushed, like the author wanted the book to end before it did, and there were places in it that i thought he was trying too hard... it is a good book, but there are far better out there, and i dont think i will be reading this one again for a while...!

Yes I ab loved the D code aswell, I couldnt put it down!!!! Talk about thought provoking!!! Very clever how the plot was weaved, and I loved all the clues and codes which had to be broken to find the 'holy grail.' Dan Brown is an amazing writer. Very clever how he used some scientific fact to make his story believable. There is that element of truth in it which certainly makes you think what has gone on in our past which may have influenced our future. Makes you wonder what other secret organisations are going on around us. It says alot when it got loads of media attention, and hence, went on to be made into a film. Have you seen the film? its quite good too; although films never quite turn out as good as the books.
I have noticed that alot of people on here have mentioned Angels and Demons, I have got that as well and will be reading it very soon. It sounds to me like you are an avid reader. I have to recommend another book that I think you will like, its called Bless the Child by Cathy Cash-Spellman...true brilliance. Check out Graham Masterton books, they are also excellent. Happy reading!!! :o)

I was intensely irritated by it. One of the characters was supposed to be a da Vinci expert, but it took him till the very last minute to figure out that the coded message was mirror-writing. Any da Vinci expert would have tried this out from the outset.
Also they go into the Gare Saint Lazare (which is close to l'Opéra and the Paris Stock Exchange) and when they come out they are surrounded by 'ethnic' shops - obviously the Gare du Nord.
The story was not bad, but the proof reader wasn't up to much and Dan Brown relied too much on the assumed ignorance of the reader.

Brilliant, loved it. Read it twice

Very thought provoking. Liberating. I can now believe in God with out feeling guilty about not taking the bible literally. Every history has two sides, it doesn't make the truth less awesome. Brown has given me a version that I can research that feels more natural to me.

His brilliant fiction story uses theories and facts well known to a few, its was time to bring it out in a format that appeals to a wider audience, not just academics

Try reading some of the books that detail Browns 'facts' they break them down and explain them some more. Fascinating read.

I've read it, but I can't say I found it particularly thought-provoking...very engaging though.

Perhaps I just overdosed on all those "true story" mystical conspiracy theory books when I was younger, there was nothing new in the Da Vinci Code for me!

Yes, that and his other works Angels & Demons etc. All quite thought provoking - but the Da Vinci Code was outstanding and thought provoking.

Don't know about the film though - got bad reviews I think.

I'm right in the middle of it. I just finished Angels and Demons. It is written by the same author and takes place one year before The Da Vinci Code. I think you would like it.

I loved it personally. Dan Brown is a very thought provoking author. Facts along with fiction!?!Amazing concept! It leaves it up to the reader to find out which is actually which.!.Have you read any of his other books[Angels and Demons, Digital Fortress]?Check them out if you haven't. Besides who can't love an author that pisses off the Catholic Church? Some... NOT ALL facts are true according to historical writings. Opinions are like a*&h^&es, everybody's got one.
