I wastalking to my mother today and she kept going on about "white folk"this and "white folk"that.I finally started laughing and said to her"give it a rest with the white folk crap,you sound like a slave!".She got irate and starts cursing me out about how I need to wake up and come out of my ubble and start living in the real world and stop pretending that I'm not a black person like her.Then she starts saying that because I'm married to a white man doesn't make mewhite(like I dont know this).All because I was sick of hearing her ignorant banter.All black people do not speak about whites like that,especially in that term"white folk" so repeatedly.I also WILL NOT have her around my kids talkingthat way.My hubby's grandma is a major bigot(only white is right)and I make an effort to keep my kid away from her. Was I wrong to make this comment ?.Am I wrong to protect my kids from poisonous brainwashing?

I'm sorry to hear that your kids don't get to have a relationship with either grandparent. It's terribly sad when people cannot keep their views to themselves. In my opinion, if you want to think badly of another race, it's fine. I can't change your opinions. Just keep it to yourself. Don't cause harm to others because of your ignorance.

You are definitely doing the right thing by keeping your kids away from this behavior. My in-laws are very bigoted. I've always thought it was kind of funny because she is mexican and he is white, but they constantly talk about how gross interracial couple couples are (huh?). I will never understand why some people think that they are better than others. Anyway, on the positive side, they do not ever say anything like that in front of any of their grandkids, so we haven't had a problem with that. I certainly would not want my kids around them if they did. The funny thing is that they obviously realize that it's not okay since they won't speak that way in front of children. So why speak that way any other time?

You are married to a white guy, do you feel inferior, does he feel superior to you. It is only when social stigma, made by people like your mother effects relations within the community.

No one has the right to make others feel guilty and down grade their own colour.

You look after your kids, let them decide what they want to be when they grow up, teach them respect, love and how to behave in a polite way, they will grow up in the real world, and not brainwashed.

You are right , Your mother is a slave! She is a slave to her own ignorance and bigotry. Just as your husbands mother is a narrow minded fool and Racist.

Racism is a curse and a disease.

You and your husband obviously have Kids you care about , if you and your husband have common values and live a good life as partners and there is love between you your children will never be brainwashed by the stupidity of your parents.

Your children will learn by your example and very quickly know that what your parents teach is demeening to them and to you and they will soon reject their notions.
