Depends on where you're going and how far you're traveling. If you're going to say O'Hare or Midway there's a flat rate, but that's up to the individual cab companies to charge rates. Most cab companies have specific areas they travel and if you go outside their route it's more.

Just be sure that your cabbie knows where he is going! Last time I was in Chicago, our cabbie got lost and just drove around for a while before he finally told us! We had to call our hotel to give him directions and we still got charged for the full ride! -That is the only time I have had that problem, but just be sure that you clarify where you are going before the meter starts running! Have fun!
