Hello:

Your existing Mother board may be satisfactory at
some higher speeds. You may find this information out
by downloading SISoft Sandra 2002 free off the internet.
When it is installed, do a scan of your computer and
determine what the system motherboard is exactly. Then,
you can do searches on the internet for the details on that motherboard and what its maximum CPU capability is.

With that information in hand, you can go to TigerDirect dot com and look for an upgrade chip that will produce the desired increased speed result. In some cases that upgrade might require you to also install faster memory which might be an additional cost.

Now, with that information in hand you can move to searching for a new MotherBoard. First, the new motherboard must be compatible with the Case Style of your existing computer. That means your new board must have the same mounting holes and connector placements as your old board. So you will have to find out what style board you have now. The site where you research info on your existing board will have that information.

Second, the new board you select will not do much good without being equipped with a new high speed CPU and Fan assembly. Look for one that is a great deal faster than your old system so that you can wind up with a big improvement. You will need new RAM Memory for this
faster system. Get as much memory as you can afford. You can always go back later and purchase additional RAM to speed up your system operation.

Hard Disk Drives have dropped in price and expanded in storage capabilities. So, you might want to also check out adding a new hard disk drive...100 Gig or 200 Gig drives are not uncommon these days.

Oh, one other little trick you might want to investigate is a front panel module which lets you insert memory sticks from cameras, mp3 player cables, or portable memory devices. Those panels are pretty cheap and add new capabilities to your system that you have not had before. It is really crummy to have to plug these things into the back of a computer box. Why not have the jacks or slots mounted right on the front of the computer where you sit? that makes much more sense.

Look for a knowledgeable computer tech near you to assist with all these changes.

Have a good day.
Zah

if you had an older board (maybe ten+ years)!

Although, the mother board is only one small link in the chain of items that controls what you think of as speed!

The most important is the amount of Ram and close second is Storage. Obviously, the programs that you use to tune, or manage these resources will be next, as Windows (if you use windows), use all ram and any available storage to swap memory in and out of ram so you can have the experience of speed!

Video ram and video boards will be, in there with, normal Ram.

The level of graphics available in all games these days will require a larger than normal amount of Video Ram.

If you enjoy playing on-line games and believe you can speed up your connection by upgrading your computer, you will be disapointed!

Your upgrade may make your connection seem faster, but you'll be increasing the speed from the outlet entering your computer to your monitor!

Your connection speed is determined by your provider and they only guarantee the speed if trying to load there page!

The mother board, by itself, won't help!

It's not so much motherboards that do your speed as it is the memory (both amount and speed) and your CPU that does it.

I, however, personally like Mach Speed motherboards. :p
