A data disc (or disk, or diskette) is a disk used to store electronic data.
Almost always refers to a computer device but it could also be the disk used in a DVD video recorder.

It is called a disk because the actual storage medium is in the shape if a disk.

A data disk for your computer is either a "Floppy Disk", a CD / DVD, or sometimes the term data disk may refer to your hard drive.

It is called a disk because the actual storage medium is in the shape if a disk.
Obviously, a CD or DVD is round and disk-shaped.
If you were to take a floppy disk apart (making it unusable)
you would find a disk-shaped "cookie" inside.
If you were to take a computer hard drive apart (DON'T!) you would find several disk-shaped platters inside.
It has the shape of a disk because it has to spin at a very high speed.

If you are working on your computer and you are prompted to insert the data disc, it is asking for a CD / DVD or, most likely, a floppy disk to be inserted into the appropriate drive on your computer.
