My account type was recently changed at my branch and did not advise me about this nor did I ask for it. At least it's for the better as I'll be saving money on withdrawal fees, however I do find it odd that this would be changed without them telling me. I am suspicious that one of my nosy family members was involved (it has happened at this bank before, when I was a legal adult). What do you think?

Geez, don't attack me, I was 17 when I opened my account, I don't remember all the small print.

I also wanted to add that a customer service rep told me that this would usually never have been done without my consent, so I did my homework.

Yes as a banker of 4 years...we can do that without you signing anything....if it benefits you, the customer....i work at Regions financial bank...and we can do this...yes, this is stated on all the paper work that you signed when you opened the account in the beginning...but it can only be done if say your getting charged for your account...and we now offered a free account....banks always try to help out their customers...(or in my experience of working there)

If your family wasnt on your account they cant do anything...and no info can be given out on the account.... the only way they can be told anything,is if they are a co-signer or co-owner of the account and its a joint checking...then all parties on the account can be informed of all transactions.

I know for a fact it can be done, because I just done one myself 3 days ago...a lady had an account that could be drawing intrest and wasnt...so I put her in one that would draw intrest...

Not likely the bank changed the terms of your account without notifying you. Could be the letter they sent got discarded as an unread ad (my wife is great at that).

You need to talk to someone at the bank, probably a manager, not a teller, to find out what happened.

If you are a legal adult as you say, it doesn't seem likely that the bank would take the word of anyone else to make a change in your account, family member or not, unless their name is also on the account. Anything else would violate federal banking regulations and potentially open the bank to major legal problems.

No, you need to be present to change anything about your account with the bank or at least give permission.

As an addition, my bank won't change anything without giving some sort of notice, and if yours does, I would recommend finding a new one. I don't believe that there is such a thing as "helping" a customer when you mess with their accounts without their consent.

They are most likely collection agencies that took over accounts from the folks you owe money too. Ask your bank to give you their phone number. Call them to find out what the heck is going on. If you really owe them make arrangements. If you do not agree you owe them or can not reach them or something call your banks ombuds office.

YES they can ...remember the big wad of papers you signed when you opened your account? You don't remember? Well you DID and the terms of that agreement gives the bank the right to do whatever they want...

technically yes but if u r talking abt being as a layman, then theortically is wrong. anything to do with money, please read the fineprints otherwise it's to yr disadvantages
