So I'm looking at this area in Big Bear (Southern CA) and Im looking at doing a 5 foot huck to about a 35 degree slope. What minimal conditions shud this be done in? Im a confident black snowboarder, and can do double blacks, but I dont want to crash and land in 6 inches of slush. Minumum condtions?

BTW, Big Bear doesnt get a lot of snow, the snow depth is about 2 to 3 feet at its deepest.

Um, 5 feet is not really much at all. You should be able to stomp a five footer on that kinda slope with no problems in any condition. In fact, you could land that kind of air on a completely flat surface no worries, I've done it countless times.

For dropping cliffs just remember that the bigger you go the steeper the landing and the softer the snow. You say you don't want to land in 6 inches of slush but that is a very good condition for landing drops up to 20 feet (or more depending on the landing). Anything bigger than that and I'd wait for a foot or more of powder.

If you're talking about hitting jumps and not dropping cliffs. The basic rule of thumb is to make sure that the landing is at least as steep as the jump. After that, the more experience you gain the better you'll be able to judge landings for yourself. Definately start small and work your way up.
