Personally, I love them. I have all of the Sandman comics. I have a lot of Joker comics, and Batman is the sh*t. There's also Alan Moore comics, which are always nifty. They aren't really for little boys, ya know?

Oh, I don't think it's silly. I've just been mocked for it before.

Okay, this question was sent to me because well this is my life. I have over 600 comics, including spiderman number 1 and the first appearance of the punisher. My cast collection is in original x-men, spiderman, and captain america. I got in to this doing a dissertation on comics reflecting sociological changes in norms.
It was a natural obsession for me being a gamer since I was a kid. I actually did the original testing for online gaming communities when I was a kid. Guess it was where I first got addicted to mortal kombat and fighting games.

To answer your question, NO you are not a freak or some odd person. In fact you have just upped the game on all the girls around you. Guys like comics, almost all guys have collected them or still collect them. They hide this secret nerdy obsession because they are afraid girls wont get it or wont like them if they see it. When they find a girl who is in to this they are so thrilled that they can come out about all of this, and not have to hide it till later. It is like you have skipped the first two months of the relationship where you are trying to impress one another and have moved right in to just being yourself.

In fact I actually got my BF today because of my comic books, video game playing, and star wars obsession. No I am not one of those freaky girls who stays inside all day and has to beg a guy fro a date. You can check out my 360 page if you would like proof, but I am totaly normal, just have a lot of guy friends. Mainly because I am in to all of these things. Their GFs hate me because they know that I have a close bond with them over all of these things, that they hate and try to chaneg about them.

On my 4th date with my current BF I mentioned that I am a huge star wars fan, I dont think I could have expressed it enough. After a good 20 minutes of grilling on star wars trivia he realized I wasn't joking. I exclaimed "dont mess with a girl that sleeps with a star wars pillow." He laughed and said he didn't believe me for two seconds. At the end of the date he dropped me off, and I called him out on his bluff. According to him when he saw my star wars pillow he realized how different I was from other girls, and that we had to be together.
The next date we hung out at my house before going to a movie. For that half hour he saw my PS2 set up, including matching controllers for favorite characters for each of my favorite games, my massive game collection, my atari 2 throwback, and my stacks of comics. When we left to go to the movie he couldn't stop smiling.
A month or so later I got in to a star wars trivia off with one of his roommates and won. I think it was the moment that they decided I was "good enough" to date their friend. Later I had to call and say I was going to be an hour late because I was busy defending a game title for FIFA soccer. They all laughed when I came in to their house hands up saying I was still the champion.

So my best advice is to rock it. Comics are cool, and it makes you different. Guys will love you, and there are tons of cool chicks who are in to it as well. We have our own lil community of down chicks.

I don't think it's silly. It's just that most people are still stuck in the place where they feel comics are for kids. Comics has way evolved into something that crosses these childlike boundaries.

It's funny that it is these same people who are afraid to read because they might get addicted.

A girl that reads comic books, i think that's cool because it's like making yourself available to other sources of media. And being open is something that a lot of people lack suprisingly.

You must insinuate that it's silly because certain comics such as Batman or Superman are for boys only? Because that many comics only attract testosterone filled guys? Well, probally back around in the 50's when comics was deemed bad for little boys minds. But, come on.Don't think that. We're in a age when girls shouldnt think of that kind of stuff. I do not blame you to feel this way. I felt silly for watching Sailor Moon and kept it a secret myself. But now i fully admit that i like watching girlie anime.

Don't feel silly. Cause as one user already said: Art Is Art. And dont let the fact that comics mostly driven to boys are not for girls. Because it is not a fact.

No way!!!!! It is definitely NOT silly for a woman to like comic books. I can say this both as a woman and as an avid comic book reader, buyer, and collector. I have been buying, reading, and collecting comic books since I was a little baby, and I love it every day of my life. Comic books are for everyone; male and female; of all ages.

hold on... let me get this strait... you are a woman and you like comic books?

do you have any idea how hot that makes girls? it's like when a girl plays video games well... they are so friggin hot (my last gf used to kick my butt at soul caliber and used to buy more comics than i did!). i don't know that many guys who would call a gal silly for collecting comics... but they have no idea how much they're missing! (btw, my respect went up for you when you said you have all the sandman comics... neil gaiman is the man! i love his comics and his books [good omens, american gods, etc.])

i have a female friend who is into comics as well and i have to you... she usually has to beat guys off with a stick! there is no way that reading comics is silly!

Ya know, I never even thought of it as silly when I was a kid. I had Dennis the Mennis, Archie, a WHOLE bunch of Classic comics, which weren't funny but like a cliff note comic book of classic tales, and I always had Mad Magazine. Really only about the last couple of years did I realize that girls didn't read them. I don't know?? I guess most of the girls really just don't "get it".

It's not sillly. What it really is, is a misunderstanding. The majority of people in the world are boys=gangsta and girls=shopping adicts. So for there to be a girl who likes comics as a hobby, people label it stupid or silly because it's unusual and not ridiculously popular in the entire world...especially for a girl :)

I'm a girl andI have loads of Graphic Novels and I've been told it's nerdish and stupid, but I always give the same answer. "I don't care."

hey its cool, don't let others bring you down. I have tons of friends that are girls and they love comics, graphic novels etc. Nothin bad about it, just be yo self. If you go to a comic con or any convention center there's tons of people that came around the world because they love what they read.

for the post-Crisis Wonder Woman, the early George Perez issues are great - I imagine they must have been collected. Byrne's run, also very good, has been collected, as has part of (but alas not all) Jimenez's run, which I found the best period. original Wonder Woman has a certain bizarre charm. Odd mix of early women's lib with s&m. Its available in archives
