Are there any Anime stories or characters who are female oriented or can stand alone?

Question

I mean, anime girls who are central characters and does not need the assistance of male characters or does not fall in love or have feelings with male characters?
(Nausicaa is a good start, but what about others?)

Ghost In the Shell is a good example indeed. Although in the 2nd gig. It is revealed that Kusanagi had feelings for someone in the past which later is suspected of plotting terrorists acts in the present. But nothing went on any further between the two further on.

Now, i havent watched this anime yet. But i think Ergo Proxy is another example. It is another future punk anime with a female lead. From the looks of it. She does things on her own, but i dont know about love interests.

Female characters standing alone on their own in anime without having a love interest in anime is a rare occasion. I wouldnt mind seeing more with situations like this.

Integra Hellsing (from the anime Hellsing) is pretty much a stand alone character. She's not exactally the main character but she's one of several mains. She doesn't fall in love (it's arguable but i don't think she does) and she's actually the strong supporting character for several of the male characters.

Azumanga Daioh is pretty much female oriented. Almost all the major characters are girls in that anime.
