Lets use "x" and start changing words to math...
13 more than 4*x = -91.
More means you are adding, so 13+4x = -91.
Solving:
13 + 4x - 13 = -91 - 13
4x = -104
4x/4 = -104/4
x=-26

Let
4x = four times a number
4x + 13 = 13 more than four times the number
- 91 = the total
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
4x + 13 = - 91
4x + 13 - 13 = - 91 - 13
4x = - 104
4x/4 = - 104/4
x = - 26
The answer is x = - 26
Insert the x value into the equation
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
4x + 13 = - 91
4(- 26) + 13 = - 91
- 104 + 13 = - 91
- 91 = - 91
- - - - - - -s-

I've taken algebra and advanced algebra, and for me that stuff was pretty easy, but when I first learned it I had no idea and was just as confused as you are. So there may be hope!
It usually helps when you have a problem like this to start at the end. So, ok, -91 is at the end. So on your paper, write down:
-91
What's next? "is." The word is always means =. So you put down:
= -91
What's next? "A number." Well, in algebra, whenever you see this, you write x.
x = -91
Now, you're not done yet so don't think this is your answer! Keep on going . . . "four times a number" that's 4x
4x = -91
Now, 13 more means you're going to add 13 to whatever's between "than" and "is" (aka 4x). So you have:
4x + 13 = -91
Now you isolate the variable (x) and solve. To do this you have to subtract 13 from both sides:
4x = -91 - 13
4x = -104
Now divide both sides by 4.
x = -104/4
Your answer is -26
x = -26

First: 13 more than four times a number
Four times a Number = 4x
13 more = +13
4x+13
Second IS -91
IS is your clue that it is an equality bet. two numbers
So
4x+13=-91
Solve
4x+13=-91
Transpose 13
4x=-91-13
Subtract
4x=-104
Divide to Both Sides
x=-26
Check
Substitute x
4(-26)+13=-91
add -104 and +13
-104+13=-91
-91=-91: correct
Hope I helped you

lets assume that the number is X
so, 4 times of X plus 13 = -91
so we have
4X+13=-91
or 4X = -91-13 = -104
or X = -104/4 = -26
and that is the answer .. simple :)

Set it up like this, then solve for x:
4x + 13 = -91
4x = -91 - 13 = -104
4x/4 = -104/4
x = -26
Hope that helped you!
