12 - 10x = - 28

12 - 10x - 12 = - 28 - 12

- 10x = - 40

- 10x/- 10 = - 40/ - 10

x = 4

The answer is x = 4

* ten times a number = 10(x) , the x represents the unknown number which has to times by 10 to get the actual number.

* difference between 12 and 10(x) means minus both numbers (12 - 10x ) and you will get -28.

therefore,

12 - 10x = -28
12 + 28 = 10x
40 = 10x
40/10 = x
4 = x

it's a simple equation: 12-10x=-28. subtract 12 from each side and you get -10x=-40 and divide by -10 to get 4. it checks out because 10 times -4 is -40, and -40 -(plus) 12 is -28

12-10x=-28

Subtract 12 on both sides:
-10x=-40
x=4

Check:
12-10(4)=-28
12-40=-28
-28=-28
