Once again we get into the idea of the Art and the Critic. The statement of "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" sums up the notion quite succinctly.
The idea is that we all interpret was we feel is beauty by our own sensibility. The artist of course considers his are beautiful, and those critics who find the object beautiful hold a truism for themselves. This is not to say that some may find something hideous, but then again, some love it.
It is all a matter of opinion, and there are no wrong opinions where art is concerned.

I kind of understand your philosophical question. Did you know that the "Signs of beauty" sought after by many women were once signs of fertility that men desired when choosing a mate?
