I just bought a 2006 Mazda MPV. It is my 4th Mazda in a row. They are very reliable vehicles. I really recomend the Mazda 3, I twiced owned Proteges, the last one was a 2003 Protege5 which became the Mazda3 Sport in 04. What a great car, I traded it in for the MPV only because we had another baby. But I loved to drive that car.

YES! Like some other people said, a new car will always be reliable, as long as you don't beat it up by driving too rough. And as far as a Mazda 3 goes....THEY ARE VERY RELIABLE!! My first car was a 2004 Mazda 3 then I traded it in for a 2006 and I love them! It will definitely last you through long miles and definitely over 5 years. The only downfall.....EVERYONE has a Mazda 3 NOW! UGH!! Great car, though!

As a 2007 Mazda 3i touring model, they are very reliable and durable vehicles! My uncle had the last of the 'Japanese' imported Mazda B2200 truck with 300k miles until the motherboard of the truck decided not to work.
They are fun cars to drive, although they need slightly more power, they make up for it in fuel mileage and overall reliability! I bought my 2007 Mazda 3i touring in 2008, with 13k miles and now it has 80k miles.
So far wear and tear items are reasonably priced and the quality is impeccable! It is tight as a drum at 80k, brakes work perfectly and I just put new tires on this car a year ago.
If my uncle's Mazda B2200 (it was a 1990 by the way) can make it to 300k, I am sure that my Mazda 3 will. Just maintain it and it will give you trouble free ownership.

I would concur the Mazda 3 is a very reliable vehicle, very good build quality, and a pretty sound engine design, but like with any car, proper maintenance is the key. The only mazda that perhaps you should stay away from would be any of the RX series, rotary engines are great, but you have to be a bit more than an enthusiast.

I had an 04 mazda 3. Unfortunately I totaled it. And I really didn't get hurt, so I think it was a great car for that. I didn't have any problems with it mechanically either.
I just got a new mazda cx7 last saturday. I love it too.

I had a Mazda RX-7 for 12 years (with the rotary engine). Without a doubt, it was the best-running car I have ever owned.
Even though it had 170,000 miles on it when I sold it, the engine never once failed to start quickly and efficiently. My sister has a Mazda Tribute and has likewise had very good luck with hers.

Hey my name is Christina and I am a Salespaerson at a Mazda dealer. I can tell you that, Mazda's are very reliable. Quality interior appointments, strong bones, ample power, powerful brakes, sophitiscated rear suspension. Updated front and rear styling, standard tire pressure monitor, revised interior trim. In the age of $3 per gallon fuel, the compact segment is heating up, and the Mazda3 is one of the hottest players in the league, particularly with the 2.3-liter upgrade engine. Beyond that, in its higher trim levels, the 3 proves that small and posh don't have to be mutually exclusive concepts. If you have me questions, give me a call at 718-748-3636 and ask for Christina. And I will give you the best price for the car if you are interseted in getting it.

Any new car is reliable with preventative maintenance.
The main reason domestic cars have bad reps is because anyone with a minimum wage job can buy one and they don't take care of it.
The main reason Toyota and Honda have such good reputations is because anyone who paid the same price for a midsize as a domestic fullsize is going to do preventative maintenance and if it turn out to be a lemon, they aren't going to tell people that their expensive car crapped out on them.
Every manufacturer makes lemons, just look at Y! answers for car makes.
I think the Mazda 3 is an excellent car.
