This is an invasive test that has nothing to do with what the first answer says. It involves actually taking a sample of your kidney either through a needle or in surgery. Your doc is really the one who should explain all that is involved since you will need to sign a consent form. In the mean time, here is a link that tells all about kidney biopsy. http://www.kidney.org/atoz/atozItem.cfm?id=82

Good luck!

(is it a CT guided bx?) if so they give you an amnestic (versed or diprovan to make you out of it), lay you on the opposite side from the biopsy, clean your skin with iodine, slide you into the donut, scan you to locate the kidney (so they don't poke something that shouldn't be poked) and then insert a needle with a stylet in it to get to the kidney itself, then pull the filler (or stylet) out and push the needle in further to capture some tissue and then remove it.---then send it to the lab for whatever...frozen section or....then you roll back onto your side and they monitor you for generally 4 hours to see if everything is going to be ok...because the kidneys hold an incredible amountof blood at any one time and they do not want you to exsanguinate (hemorrhage to death)...glood luck
