A lot more peaceful with almost empty prisons.

Not good. 100 years ago, you could go to the local drugstore and buy concoctions laced with opium and cocaine over the counter. Many people became addicted, and kept taking the drugs to treat the symptoms of addiction. Some people might think it would be cool, but it would be a mess. Imagine all the people out on the roads, all jacked up. Or having guns to play with. Or maybe giving them to your children then taking advantage of them.
Marijuana though-I don't see the point; all they accomplished by making it illegal is to make otherwise law-abiding people into instant criminals.

all our tax dollars would go to treatment programs, medical issues, law enforcement, etc.

It would be a very expensive mess.
