If I had a nickel for everytime someone asked this question on Yahoo Answers, I might be rich by now. I recommend doing a search and look at the pre-existing questions and answers on this topic. I personally think we define our own motives in life, and they usually involve love.

there is no motive. It just happened. some chemical reactions then simple life forms were created and over time (4 billion years or so) humans evolved.
there is no motive. however you could choose one.
life is a gift. you can choose what to do with it.

In my opinion, we live because of science. We live to help those who are in despair. We live to make ourselves and other happy. We live to achieve goals. We live for the thrills of life. We live to experience misery so that we can help others who are experiencing that same miserable situation. We live to advance in life in different fields. We live because of curiosity. We live because of our families. We live because of the great joy of LOVE; the best feeling in the world. We live because there's beauty in this world. We live to help those people who are not able to see the beauty in the world. We live because of this connection. Not because of religion. We live because we were meant to live. We live because dieing only brings misery to others. We live because we have too. And there's no reason why we wouldn't want to live. Sometimes it's better not to ask so many questions about life, and instead live it to the fullest. Every single moment. The best advice someone gave is not to think so much about these things, unless you want to major in somthing that deals with this topic. Too much thinking can leave you in an confusion state of mind, if you know what I mean. I hope I've helped you with something, dear.

...as some say ~ you have thrown into this brutal, merciless world & for the sake of living, you have to live on & on & on....no motive or ulterior aspect behind it. Try to live as you like & you have to fight for it.
